Shawwal Eid 2025

Shawwal Eid is a long-standing Harari tradition and an important cultural event for the Hararian community in Melbourne. It is an annual celebration that takes place at the end of the first seven days of the month of Shawwal, bringing together community members to commemorate and preserve an important aspect of Harari heritage.

In preparation for the event, the Senior Men's Madih Group revisited the traditional Shawwal Karabu Kitab (book) and continued their training throughout the latter half of Ramadan and the first week of Shawwal. These sessions focused on refining performance techniques, strengthening familiarity with the traditional texts, and ensuring that cultural practices were carried out in accordance with longstanding traditions.

The Shawwal Eid event was another success for the Madih Group, with the Shawwal Karabu (drumming) performance delivered beautifully and well received by attendees. The performance reflected the group's dedication and commitment to preserving this important tradition. Several members also demonstrated significant personal development by learning and performing sections that they had not previously attempted, contributing to the overall success of the event and helping to build the group's collective skills and confidence for future performances.
